My name is Dacosta! I’m a self-taught designer/illustrator, living in Vancouver, Canada. Now, if you ask anyone that knows me, they’ll tell you I have a thing for robots 🙂
Heck yeah! ROBOTS ARE AWESOME!!! I can’t say this enough. I think about robots all day long and how they will shape our future. They’ve already become more than just fictional elements or characters in storybooks and films, and they’re going to be a big part of how humanity moves forward. I can’t think of anything I’d rather draw, so putting together a book that explores a subject I love seemed like a fun idea.

SPREAD THE WORD!!!
A big part of making this project a success is getting the word out. The more folks who know, the more ROBOTIC fun there is to be had. So shout it from those social rooftops. THE “MARCH OF ROBOTS” HAS BEGUN!!!
I’ve always worked in the creative field. I’ve made my own vinyl toys and apps, as well as consulted on character designs for companies like Nintendo, Sony, Hasbro, and Spin Master. Now, while that work is always challenging and rewarding, the BIG goal has always been to draw on those past experiences to shape a fully independent studio that would allow me to be my own client. Dreaming up concepts that I think are fun and putting them out there to the world. So that’s why I’ve brought this to Kickstarter. It’s important to have the opportunities to connect to the folks that like what I do directly and who want to support those efforts. This is my first book and I’m proud to bring it to Kickstarter because it’s an amazing space that enables that connection by allowing me to say “Hey guys! This is what I’m doing. Would you like to be a part of the journey?” It’s B to C, which is really Me to You and that’s invaluable.
For the past couple of years, I’ve been doing a daily sketch project in the month of October called #Botober. The goal was mainly to challenge myself and to celebrate my love for all things robotic. It was a lot of work, and a ton of fun. It only took about a week after completing this past challenge before I decided that I wasn’t going to wait a year. My love for robots was simply too much to contain for a whole year before diving into another. So! Open those sketchbooks, sharpen those pencils, boot up those digital painting and 3D sculpting tools and be ready because 03.01.14 is…
MARCH of ROBOTS!
The goal is a new robot illustration each day for 31 days and, to add to the fun, I’m also doing a Kickstarter campaign for my artbook called “MARCH of ROBOTS!” featuring all the robot drawings from MoR, my past Instagram projects and load of unpublished illustrations. It’s going to be a blast!
The 3 Laws:
- Drawings can be digital or analogue, but it must be drawn by you and it has to be a robot.
- #Hashtag drawings with #marchofrobots.
- Have fun with it! If you feel you’re up to the full 31 day challenge, awesome! If not no worries. You don’t have to do a drawing every day. Just set yourself a goal and stick with it.
